Biography

~ in the fields is the artistic partnership of artists Nicole Heidtke and Stefan Baumberger, founded in Edinburgh in 2005. Since then they have received commissions for public artworks from across the UK, and in 2010 they won the Berlin University of the Arts Award for Interdisciplinary Art and Science for their work ink. They received several New Media Scotland Alt-w production awards and a Quality Production Arts Award from Creative Scotland in 2013. They have been commissioned by the Edinburgh Art Festival in 2012 to create a public artwork on St Andrew Square. Art Residencies include University College London Environment Institute (including one month research on Shetland Islands), Scottish Sculpture Workshop and Aberdeen University Geoscience Department, Centre for Design Informatics University of Edinburgh, Abertay University Dundee and the Highland Hospice Inverness.

~ in the fields’ works have been exhibited at The Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh College of Art, Duncan Rice Library Aberdeen, Old Truman Brewery London, at the Edinburgh Art Festival and have toured across Scotland with The Travelling Gallery.

Nicole Heidtke studied Fine Arts & Media and received a Master degree in Cultural Education. She previously taught at the Bauhaus University of Weimar (Germany) where she founded the pioneering Master programme “Media Architecture”. Stefan Baumberger studied Media Arts and Fine Arts in Germany and Spain and was a postgraduate fellow at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences in Ogaki (Japan).

They live in Tarbert (Argyll) where they lead the Creative Arts, Technology and Education programme at the Templar Arts and Leisure Centre. They have extensive teaching experience including Edinburgh Napier University, Edinburgh Printmakers, Stills Gallery Edinburgh and CPD training qualifications including Argyll and Bute Council and Creative Learning Networks.
