collecting rain is a concept for Buses, Coaches, Trains & Vans travelling through Scotland. While travelling through Scotland you are carrying a message. the spheres are raindrops in the air the spheres are air bubbles in the sea the spheres are ideas in creative hands Material Silver beads/spheres (diameter 3mm) in unbreakable, sealed and easy-to-clean clear acrylic glass pipes (diameter 5mm) on the outer surface of your vehicle. Effect The silver beads will move inside the acrylic glass pipes whenever your vehicle is moving or is standing still up- or downhill. Where The acrylic glass pipes should be fixed parallel at the two sides of the vehicle (neither at the front nor at the rear). There should be some distance between them, but they should be fixed directly on the vehicle-surface. The acrylic glass pipes have all the same diameter but a different amount of silverbeads inside. Why The main idea is that the installation at the vehicle will show its movement, like a speed line. Through acceleration and braking (or driving uphill and downhill) the silver beads will roll forward or backwards inside the acrylic glass pipes. It is a kind of metaphor for an always travelling vehicle, transporting something, driving through Scotland. There is always something on the move, changing the position, progressing, looking forward, leaving behind. Also, the moving silver beads are like rain drops falling on the surface of a vehicle, making a shiny trace, mapping the speed and the direction. They are also like mirrors-globes showing the changing environment, small spheres itself. Add-ons People could have little magnets to influence the path of the silver beads inside the acrylic glass pipes while the vehicle is standing/parking. collecting rain was initially developed for the Travelling Gallery. It has been short-listed in 2006 for the design of the new gallery vehicle. |
